Trout Fishing through mid-May

Fishing opportunities abound in Otter Creek Outdoor Recreation Area. Otter Creek, a 5 mile stream with head waters in Hardin County, flows through Otter Creek Outdoor Recreation Area area and empties into the Ohio River. This stream continues to undergo improvements from the KDFWR staff and local fly fishing clubs, which have helped it become the premier trout stream within 25 miles of Louisville. While the stream is part of the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife’s trout stocking program, local fly fishing clubs have joined the cause by stocking larger trout for the catch and release season. Otter Creek offers several deep pools that attract avid fly fishers during winter fishing months. The summer brings out Small Mouth Bass to entice fly fishers to discover remote deep pools for year-round fly fishing. Be sure to check with the staff for locations for additional stream access points. Garnetsville has easy banks for wading access to fish along with parking and picnic areas for a complete day’s visit.  Although the river boat launch has been closed, the ramp does allow access for canoes and cat fishing on the Ohio River.
